Spring season and upcoming celebrations

We wish all our members, friends, and supporters a very happy 2024!

Last autumn we enjoyed a concert with an avian theme, entitled Birds of Myth and Fable. The fantastic evening stretched the whole orchestra to play at our very best. Starting with Dvořák's The Wood Dove, an orchestral poem telling a tragic story, then following with Concerto for Birds and Orchestra by the Finnish composer Rautavaara, which included recordings of bird song recorded near the Arctic Circle and on the bogs of Liminka in northern Finland. The final piece was Stravinsky's Firebird Suite which was written for the 1910 Paris season of Sergei Diaghilev's Ballets Russes company.

Our upcoming 2024 Spring and Summer seasons promise to feature a great variety of music. Love is in the Air for our Spring Concert on 23 March 2024, featuring Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture (Tchaikovsky), Peer Gynt Suite selection (Grieg), as well as works by Ian Hÿtch, Mascagni, da Falla, and Mahler.

The Summer Concert on 29 June 2024 will be a special celebration to mark the 40th Anniversary of Wymondham Symphony Orchestra! It also falls on the year that the composer Anton Bruckner would have celebrated his 200th birthday, so our summer concert will feature his Symphony 4 (The Romantic). The programme will also feature Little Suite no.2 by Arnold and Violin Concerto in E minor by Mendelssohn, for which we are delighted to welcome our soloist Catherine McCardel.

Do come and join us for what promises to be a really exciting start to 2024!

Wymondham Symphony Orchestra...

is a friendly, lively and ambitious group of musicians that plays regular concerts at a variety of locations within the Norfolk area. We have received much critical acclaim for our sensitive and involving perfomances.

We attract members from all walks of life and provide them with the satisfaction of playing in an ensemble that has the skill and confidence to play exciting and demanding works.

We have built up an enviable reputation, and are able to attract professional soloists of the highest calibre. We also encourage young talented soloists from Norfolk to play with us, often their first concerto with a symphony orchestra.

Generally, we play three concerts a year, although we occasionally undertake additional events. We also hold an annual Open Rehearsal (see the Rehearsals page for more details) and have regular social events. It’s not just about making music - we also like to have fun!
